Antoine Moulinard

Antoine Moulinard

Antoine Moulinard (Moulins, France, 1998) is a ceramics artist living and working in Brussels. During his Master's degree in ceramics at ENSAV La Cambre, from which he graduated in 2023, he explored the marginal queer condition through analogies with the representation of magical creatures in traditional folk tales. The figures of the fairy, the werewolf, the swamp man/vampire, or the devil, are all models of inspiration for the characters sculpted by the artist, whose faces are molded on his loved ones.

Imbued with medieval influences, this imaginary world crystallizes in the form of fantastic furniture that could be described as Functional Art. Antoine's aim is to build his own universe entirely out of ceramics, which he conceives as the set of a theater stage, in which he can freely express his obsessions with pop culture and the figure of San-Sebastian (symbolic of his commitment to the LGBTQ+ cause). The various pieces of furniture that make up the domestic settings created by the artist draw on bourgeois codes of ornamentation, to the point of verging on the absurd through excessive attention to detail. Irony, humor and theatricality are the main characteristics of this world, with its Camp aesthetic, defined by Susan Sontag and embraced by queer culture.
